2 Peter 1:16-21

June 9, 2024

Pastor Nathan’s message: “Keep getting to know God because Jesus will return.” Pastor goes on to state that we need positive momentum in our Christian life to stay rock solid. We must keep growing to keep from falling. Nathan teaches three proofs that Jesus will return: 1 – He is the reigning Son of God, 2 – prophecies of the day of the Lord will come true, 3 – Scripture is God speaking. So: get to know God. In this series, Pastor Nathan challenges us to train to mature in Christ and to read the entire book of Colossians each week for better understanding. This week’s question is: “what do you believe in so much that you would wear chains or go to prison for it?” Pastor teaches that Paul was in chains for 4 years and in prison for his beliefs. God uses us to spread the Good News. So: 1 – stay spiritually fit, 2 – trust the Message, 3 – speak up – like Jesus (be wise in your speech). Pastor also teaches that thanksgiving is the anti-venom to satanic discontent. Thanksgiving is a path to God-pleasing contented joy. In this sermon series, Pastor Nathan challenges us focus on the Gospel to change our thinking and our behavior. Pastor teaches that Christianity is not meant to be a solo effort. We are to live a Christian life together, to help us get unstuck in bad habits. We are reminded that Jesus took us with Him. So: 1 – focus on your future, 2 – put your old self behind you, 3 – put on the new self to become more like Jesus. He teaches that Jesus + nothing = everything. So: 1- hold fast to Jesus, 2 – there is no value in doing more or trying harder or berating yourself, and 3 – death and resurrection with Jesus is the answer. Only Jesus can transform your life. This week’s challenge is what to tell the voices in your head – the domain of darkness is real. Pastor preaches that Jesus conquered ALL of it on the cross. So: 1 – receive Christ Jesus the Lord, 2 – abound in thanksgiving, 3 – don’t get re-captured (by the domain of darkness). You need to tell the voices in your head that you are following Jesus.
