Ecclesiastes 11:1-6

November 5, 2023

In this sermon, Pastor Nathan asks: “If you had 23 days to live, what is God telling you to do? Are you stuck? Waiting on unknowns?” He preaches that God returns what we sow. So risk: 1- the unknowns, 2 – generosity and 3 – doing good. So risk surrender. Life is too short to stay stuck. If you are stuck, overcome your fear and do what God is telling you. Ecclesiastes 10:1-20

In this sermon, Pastor Nathan makes the statement: “Life is too short to be wasted on folly.” This section of Ecclesiastes is a collection of proverbs about folly. We are taught 5 characteristics of folly: 1 – it stinks, 2 – it is everywhere, 3 – it hurries, 4 – it speaks now and pays later and 5 – it disregards consequences. Pastor preaches that we were fools, (all of us at least at one time) but God saved us by His grace. So, we need to learn to hate folly and love wisdom. In this sermon, Pastor Nathan asks: “If you had 36 days to live, what would you make time for?” He teaches that God offers: 1- forgiveness of sin 2 – resurrection hope and 3 – joy now. So we are to thankfully enjoy all God’s gifts. The homework is to enjoy a meal with loved ones that reminds you of your heavenly home. In this sermon, Pastor Nathan asks: “What is frustrating in life that keeps us from joy?” We must anchor our soul to the fact that God will make it right in the end. He teaches that God: 1- gave moral order 2 – will punish and reward and 3 – is beyond us. So: Enjoy God’s gifts. For homework, by Nov. 15, we are to enjoy God’s gift of a shared meal that is unhurried and “unphoned” where we can give thanks to God for His gifts. In this sermon, Pastor Nathan asks: “If you had 86 days to live, would knowing that God is King be a source of joy?” The Scripture reminds us to live joyfully now, knowing that life is temporary. Pastor preaches that God is King: 1- Surrender to Him, 2 – Enjoy this season and 3 – Enjoy the grind. God offers joy, but not control.
